PCOS Study

Northwestern University is currently recruiting women for their research on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). You may be eligible to participate in an important research study supported by the National Institutes of Health.

Study – PCOS Registry (NU IRB # 8096)

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to find genes that cause PCOS. Understanding the genes that cause PCOS could lead to new treatments for the disorder. Further, this information may result in methods to predict and prevent PCOS.

Participation Details

The study involves the following:

  • A short (about 30 minute) visit to Northwestern Memorial Hospital or to a laboratory near your home for blood testing.
  • Completing a brief questionnaire about your medical history.

Eligibility

Women who are eligible to participate meet the following criteria:

  • 18 – 40 years old.
  • Currently have 8 or fewer menstrual periods per year or have had infrequent menstrual periods in the past.
  • Are not using birth control pills, injections, patches, rings or hormone-releasing intrauterine devices (IUDs), unless PCOS has been previously diagnosed by hormonal testing.

  • You can also participate remotely in the study.
    Northwestern will send you a kit to get your blood drawn at a local lab.

Compensation

You will receive $75 for completing the study. In addition, approved expenses for travel for blood sampling will be paid.
